Welcome

Dear Parents,

If you're planning for the summer, think like an archaeologist! This year we will be digging up the remains of the Maya and Italian Renaissance in two new scenarios designed specially for kids.

The venues for these digs are listed on the dates page. On this site you can also check out the activities covered, download an application/medical form, and read about The Archaeological Perspective. You can even send a note with your questions, but PLEASE read our FAQ page before you do because there's a good chance that your questions have already been addressed there.

The Maya program is our newest scenario. Everyone knows about the mysterious star-gazing culture whose origins go back nearly 4,000 years (from 2000 BC). But who were they? In this scenario we get what may be the clearest glimpse ever afforded of these enigmatic people: their culture, mythology, economics and, of course, unparalleled material culture.

The archaeology of the Italian Renaissance, a fascinating but often overlooked period of Italian history, will be our focus in some of the camps on offer in 2008. Students will excavate precincts of a ruined palace and attempt to understand the dynamic forces which shaped Italian art, architecture and politics during this formative period in European history. Reference will be made to the great events and developments of this period with special reference to Italy in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. Interested in Machiavelli? Come and find out what archaeology has to say about him. This may be one of the most audacious digs ever undertaken by The Archaeological Perspective.

Whichever scenario you choose, note the venue dates and themes carefully, and register soon! Each program will feature a half-day camp for 5-7 year olds, and one full day camp for 7 year olds and up. The program is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Have the best fun EVER by learning about the past. Let your child/ren's imagination run wild this summer. Sign up for Archaeology Summer Camp!
